The new year has started with great energy and many projects underway. In February, Francesco came to visit us—it is always a joy for him and the children to meet again at Malaika. Together, we worked on finalizing the financial report and collected all the necessary data for the annual report of the entire Malaika system, including the branches in Italy and Germany.
Meanwhile, daily activities continue with enthusiasm. School started again in January with some changes, while the older children are balancing study and work. The expansion of the vegetable garden and the construction of the chicken coop are also moving forward: the foundations have been laid, the outer walls are up, and soon the chickens will arrive—another step towards making the foster home more self-sufficient.
Now, only a few final steps remain before the chickens arrive and everything is up and running. Besides helping the foster home become more self-sufficient and less reliant on fundraising, the chicken coop will also support the local economy. Like the candle-making project, it will create new jobs and offer real opportunities for growth and independence beyond Malaika.
